We don't sell your information to anyone.
Visit statistics
To learn which pages are useful and how people find us, our own server counts visits to this website (www.remotemyshack.com) as it sends each page. There are no cookies on this website, no tracking scripts, and no analytics or advertising companies involved. For each page view we keep:
- the time and the page;
- the website that linked to it, if your browser says so (the site and page, without any query string), and any campaign tags in the link, such as utm_source;
- whether you're on a phone, tablet or computer, and the name of your browser and operating system, without versions;
- an anonymous visitor number, so we can tell one visitor from ten page views.
The visitor number is a scrambled (hashed) mix of your IP address, your browser's description of itself and a random value that we replace every day and then discard. It can't be turned back into your IP address, and because the random value changes daily, the same person gets a different number each day: we can't follow anyone from one day to the next. We don't store IP addresses or the full browser description. Visits from search engines and other automated programs are only counted, per day. Visit statistics are deleted after 90 days.
When you sign up from a link on this website, the link carries that day's visitor number, and we note on your new account which page of the website you arrived on and the website or campaign that sent you there. We keep only that with your account, not the visitor number, so it isn't linked to anything else about your visit.
Referrals
If you sign up with a member's referral link, or name their callsign when you sign up, we tell them your callsign: by email when you sign up and when you first subscribe, and in the list of referrals in their account. We don't tell them your email address or anything else about your account.
QRZ.com lookups
If you connect your QRZ.com account for callsign lookups in your logbook, we keep your QRZ username and your QRZ password, encrypted, and use them only to look up the callsigns you type, from our server, in your name. We send QRZ the callsign and your QRZ sign-in, nothing else about you, and keep each answer for an hour so the same callsign isn't looked up twice. Disconnecting deletes your QRZ sign-in.
Logbook of The World
If you connect your LoTW account, we keep your LoTW username and your LoTW password, encrypted, and use them only to download your LoTW contacts and confirmations into your logbook, from our server, every few hours and when you ask. Disconnecting deletes your LoTW sign-in; contacts already brought in stay in your logbook until you delete them. To show whether a station uses LoTW, we also download ARRL's public list of LoTW users once a day.
If you upload to LoTW, your contacts are sent to your station's agent and signed and uploaded by TQSL on your shack computer, with your callsign certificate, which stays there; we never receive your certificate or its private key. We record which contacts have been uploaded.
The Apple TV app
When you pair an Apple TV, we keep its name (as the TV reports it), when it was paired and when it last connected, with your account, so you can see and remove it on your Account page; removing it deletes them. The app sends us nothing else about you or the TV: no analytics, no advertising identifiers and no tracking. Its sound and the frequency it tunes travel between the TV and your station, as they do for any console.
The station app
While it runs, the RemoteMyShack app at your shack asks us every six hours whether there's a newer version. Each check sends a random number the app made when it was installed, which computer it runs on (such as Mac or Windows), its version and whether it's linked to an account. That's all: nothing about your radios, your callsign or what you do with it, and we don't keep the IP address it came from. We use these to stage new versions to a few stations at a time and to count how many stations use the app, linked to an account or only on their own network. Checks stop when you quit the app.
