Listening on Apple TV
The RemoteMyShack app for Apple TV plays your station's receive audio through the TV and lets you tune with the Siri Remote: frequency, band and mode. It never transmits.
Pairing the TV
- Open RemoteMyShack on the Apple TV. It shows a QR code and a code like
K7QX-2MRT. - Point your phone's camera at the QR code and open the link. It opens remotemyshack.com on your phone; sign in if it asks.
- Check the code on your phone matches the one on the TV, name the TV ("Den", "Living room") so you can tell it apart on your Account page, and tap Pair this TV.
The TV connects to your station within a few seconds. We email you when a TV is paired, as for any other new way into your account. A code works once and only for 10 minutes; the TV shows a new one when it expires.
Listening and tuning
With one radio at the station, the TV goes straight to it; with more, choose one from the list (radios your plan doesn't cover, or that aren't connected, can't be chosen).
- The frequency is the dial. With it highlighted, press or swipe left and right on the remote to tune down and up by the step, landing on the step as a radio's dial does.
- Swipe down to the rows of buttons: Step (10 Hz to 10 kHz), Band (each starts in its phone segment, or CW on 30 m) and Mode (LSB, USB, CW, AM, FM).
- Play/Pause mutes and unmutes. Menu (or Back) goes to the list of radios.
- The tube beside Live glows with the audio: brighter on a strong signal, cold when muted. The S-meter shows the signal, as on the console. If someone is transmitting on the radio from a console, the TV says so.
Audio arrives compressed with Opus, about 32 kb/s, the same as a console reached over the internet. If the connection drops, the TV reconnects by itself.
What a TV can't do
A paired TV can change the frequency and mode of the radio it's listening to, and hear it. The shack computer ignores everything else it sends: it can't transmit, change power or other settings, switch amplifiers, antennas or relays, or turn the radio on or off. A TV's pairing works only for the TV app; it can't sign in to your account.
Changing frequency moves the radio for everyone using it, so tuning from the TV while you or someone else is operating from a console changes their frequency too.
Listening on the TV needs a plan that can operate (a trial, or an active subscription), and the RemoteMyShack app at the shack from version 1.0.96. If your plan can't operate, the TV says your account can't listen right now; your Account page on the website says why.
Removing a TV
Your Account page lists paired Apple TVs under Apple TVs. Remove stops one listening at once; it needs pairing again to come back. On the TV, Unpair this TV on the list of radios does the same.
