Passkeys and signing in

RemoteMyShack doesn't use passwords. You sign in with a passkey: your device confirms it's you with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, your screen lock, or your phone. You create your first passkey when you sign up.

One passkey works everywhere in RemoteMyShack: your Account page at remotemyshack.com and your station at https://<yourcall>.remotemyshack.com.

Signing in

  1. Go to remotemyshack.com, or your station address and click Sign in.
  2. Click Sign in with passkey.
  3. Confirm with your device.

Your browser needs passkey support. Current versions of Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox all have it.

Adding passkeys for your other devices

Add a passkey on a second device, such as another phone, a computer or a security key, so you can still sign in if you lose one. The Sign-in tab of your Account page reminds you, and is marked !, until you have at least two.

  1. On the new device, sign in at remotemyshack.com. If the passkey from your first device doesn't sync to this one, your browser can usually offer to use your phone instead, or use an email sign-in link.
  2. Open the Sign-in tab of your Account page and find Passkeys.
  3. Type a name for the device, such as iPad, and click Add a passkey.
  4. Confirm with the device.

The list shows each passkey's name, when it was added and when it was last used. Click Rename to change a name, or Remove to delete a passkey you no longer use. You can't remove your only passkey; add another one first.

We email your account's address whenever a passkey is added or removed, so you'll know if someone else does it.

Signing in on your phone with a QR code

If you're signed in on a computer, you can sign your phone in by scanning a code instead of signing in on the phone itself.

  1. On the computer, open the Sign-in tab of your Account page and find Sign in on your phone.
  2. Click Show QR code.
  3. Point your phone's camera at the code and open the link it shows.

The phone signs in and opens your console, and the Sign-in tab of your Account page shows ✓ Your phone is signed in. We email your account's address each time a code is used.

The code works once, for 3 minutes. Click Show QR code again for a new one. Don't share it or post a picture of it: whoever scans it in time is signed in as you.

A phone signed in this way doesn't have a passkey. To sign in on it later without the computer, add a passkey on the phone (see above).

If you lose your passkeys

  1. On the sign-in page, click Lost your passkey? Get a sign-in link by email.
  2. Enter your callsign or email address and click Email me a link.
  3. Open the link in the email. It works once, for 20 minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.

The link signs you in and opens your Account page, which asks you to add a passkey on that device so you can sign in normally next time. Do that straight away.

You can ask for a new link every 2 minutes. For your privacy, the page says the same thing whether or not the callsign or email has an account.

Your email address

Sign-in links and account notices go to the address under Email on the Sign-in tab of your Account page. Click Change to update it; we let your old address know about the change. Keep it current, since it's how you get back in if you lose your passkeys.

Signed up before the rename?

RemoteMyShack used to be called MyRemoteShack. Passkeys belong to the website they were made on, so if you signed up at myremoteshack.com, sign in there once and follow the steps to create a passkey for remotemyshack.com.
