Rotors
RemoteMyShack turns your beam with a rotor controller that speaks the DCU-1 protocol, the one most logging and rotor programs use. Green Heron's RT-21 controllers speak it, as do Hy-Gain's DCU-1 and many others. The controller can be on your network or on a USB or serial cable to the shack computer.
Add the rotor
- On the shack computer, open the agent's setup page and open the Rotors tab and choose + Add a rotor.
- Choose how the controller connects:
- Network: the controller's IP address and its network port.
- USB / serial: choose the controller's serial port. The baud rate is 4800, the RT-21's and the DCU-1's, unless you've set the controller to something else.
- Under Show it with, choose the radio whose console shows the rotor, or Every radio.
- Choose Save & connect. The setup page shows the controller's heading once it answers.
You can also manage rotors from your account page at remotemyshack.com.
In the console
The rotor's panel shows a compass with your beam's heading, and the heading in degrees.
- Click the compass where you want the beam to point. While it turns, a dashed line shows where it's going and the panel says Turning.
- Or type a heading (0 to 360) and press Enter or Turn.
- With the compass selected, the arrow keys turn it 10 degrees at a time.
- Stop stops it at once.
The controller chooses which way round to turn, using its own limits and settings.
Plans
Turning a rotor remotely is part of the Shack plan (one rotor) and the Super Station plan (all of them). At the shack, the console controls it on any plan. See Plans and billing.
