Turning the radio on and off
You can turn your radio off from the console when you're done, and on many radios turn it back on from anywhere.
Turning the radio off
- In the console, tap ⏻ at the top right of the frequency panel.
- The button changes to Tap again to power off. Tap it again within 3 seconds.
The two taps are there so a stray touch can't take your station off the air. If you were transmitting, the transmitter is unkeyed first.
The console then shows The radio is off.
Turning the radio on
When the radio is off, the console shows The radio is off with a Power on button.
- Tap Power on.
- The console shows Turning on… while the radio starts. This takes a few seconds.
- The console comes back by itself when the radio is ready, and audio resumes on its own.
If the radio doesn't come on within 30 seconds, the console goes back to The radio is off and explains what to check.
Which radios can be turned on remotely
Turning a radio on needs the radio to stay reachable while it's off. That depends on how it's connected.
Network radios (Ethernet or WiFi)
Many network radios can keep their network connection while switched off, so the agent can wake them. Not all can: the IC-705's WiFi switches off with the radio. On the IC-7610, set MENU › SET › Network › Power OFF Setting (for Remote Control) to Standby/Shutdown. Other network radios have a similar setting in their network menu; see your radio's manual.
While the radio is off and the agent is reconnecting to it, the Power on button is grayed out and the console says Reconnecting to the radio's network…. Wait a moment and it becomes available.
USB radios
A USB radio can't be turned on from the console: when it's off, the console says so instead of showing Power on. You can still turn it off remotely, but someone has to switch it on at the shack. Yaesu radios are the exception: their USB port stays awake while the radio is off, so they can be turned on over it. A FlexRadio or Hermes Lite 2 can't be turned on or off from the console at all. Keep that in mind before you tap ⏻ on a USB radio far from home.
The supported radios list shows which radios support remote power-on.
How the console knows the radio is off
The agent treats the radio as off when it stops answering for about 5 seconds. If the radio loses power or its network connection, the console shows The radio is off even though nobody turned it off. If Power on doesn't bring it back, check the radio and its connection at the shack (see Troubleshooting).
On the radio picker, a radio that's off shows Off.
