Contact requests
Your public station page can have a Request a contact button. Hams who visit your page use it to ask you to meet them on the air. Their request is emailed to you, and you reply to them by email.
Turning it on
- On your Account page, open the Public page tab.
- Tick Let visitors request a contact.
- Click Save.
Untick it and save to stop taking requests.
What visitors fill in
Visitors give their callsign and email address, and optionally their name, a band and mode (such as 20m SSB), when they'd like to meet, and a message.
To keep bots out, the form asks a Ham check question that any licensed ham can answer, such as what 73 means or the phonetic word for a letter. Visitors can ask for a Different question if they're stuck.
A few limits protect your inbox:
- Each visitor's internet address can send up to 5 requests an hour.
- Your station takes up to 20 requests a day.
- After 10 wrong answers to the ham question in an hour, a visitor has to wait.
Visitors' email addresses aren't shown on your public page; only you see them.
How you hear about a request
- By email. Each request is emailed to your account's address with the subject On-air contact request from and the visitor's callsign. Replying to the email goes straight to the visitor.
- Pop-ups. If you have any RemoteMyShack page open and are signed in, including your console, a new request pops up in the corner within about 30 seconds. Click View requests to see it on the Public page tab of your Account page.
- Browser notifications. To be told even when the tab isn't in front, click Notify me outside the tab too under Let visitors request a contact on the Public page tab of your Account page, or Also notify me outside this tab on a pop-up, and allow notifications. Each browser you use asks separately. If notifications are blocked, the Account page says so; allow them in your browser's settings for remotemyshack.com.
Pop-ups and notifications only work while a RemoteMyShack page is open in that browser. The email always arrives.
Handling requests
Requests are listed under Contact requests on the Public page tab of your Account page, with a count of open ones. The section appears once you've had your first request. Each request shows the visitor's callsign, name, band and time, message and email address. Click the email address to write to them.
- Click Done when you've dealt with a request. It moves out of the list.
- Click Show … finished to see finished requests. There you can Reopen a request or Delete it.
