Getting started

RemoteMyShack lets you operate your own radio from a phone, tablet or laptop, wherever you are. You tune, listen and transmit from a web page at your own address, https://<yourcall>.remotemyshack.com. There's no app to install, no port forwarding and no VPN.

What you need

  • A supported radio: an Icom, a FlexRadio, or (in beta) a Kenwood, Yaesu, Elecraft or Hermes Lite 2. It connects to the shack computer over your network (Ethernet or WiFi) or with a USB cable. Check the supported radios list.
  • A computer next to the radio that stays on: a Mac, a Windows PC, a Linux computer or a Raspberry Pi. It runs the small RemoteMyShack program we call the agent.
  • An internet connection at the shack. Home routers and cell networks both work.
  • A current browser on the device you operate from: Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox. You sign in with a passkey (Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello or your phone), so the browser must support passkeys.

The three steps

  1. Create your account. Go to remotemyshack.com, enter your callsign and email, and create a passkey. Your callsign becomes your station address. Every account starts with a free 14-day trial of the Super Station plan, and you don't need a card. See Plans and billing.
  2. Install the agent and connect your radio. Run the agent on the shack computer. Its setup page opens in a browser, and you add your radio there, either over the network or by USB. See Installing the agent.
  3. Link the agent to your account. Once your first radio is added, the agent opens the Link a station page in your browser. Click Link station while signed in. See Linking your station.

What to expect

Once the station is linked, open https://<yourcall>.remotemyshack.com on any device and sign in with your passkey. The console connects to your radio and receive audio starts by itself. You can tune, change band and mode, watch the spectrum scope, and hold to talk.

The first time you open the console on the shack computer, a welcome suggests a quick test from outside your home: on your phone, turn Wi-Fi off so it uses cell data, then open your station address (it shows a QR code to scan). That proves the station works from anywhere before you leave home. Turn Wi-Fi back on afterwards.

A few things to know up front:

  • You're the control operator. Anyone who can sign in to your account can operate your station, so keep your passkeys to yourself.
  • Transmitting is deliberately cautious. The transmitter unkeys if your connection drops, if you leave the page, or when the time limit is reached. See Listening and transmitting.
  • Every transmission is logged. See The transmit log.
  • Visitors see a public page. People who visit your address and can't operate your station see a page you control. See Your public station page.
